January Update
February 1, 2023
Dear friends,

With January behind us, we are full steam ahead into busy February!

The House of Commons is back in session, and I am energized and ready to continue the important work of fighting to make life more affordable, greener, and safer for all Canadians.

As the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, I introduced Bill C-35 An Act Respecting Early Learning and Childcare in Canada in December 2022. I remain committed to seeing its passing, and as of last week, it has moved to the Committee Stage in the legislative process.

On January 27th, I was pleased to announce funding for the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System, which works to maintain ecological connectivity. Here in Burlington, we all know the importance of our natural spaces, and our government is committed to protecting and preserving them.

Our government also announced the appointment of the Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia, Amira Alghawaby. She will serve as a champion, advisor, and expert for the purpose of enhancing efforts to combat Islamophobia in all its forms.

February marks Black History Month, and Black Canadian history is Canadian history.

“Ours to Tell” is the theme for Black History Month 2023 and it highlights the importance of sharing the many stories of success, sacrifice, and triumph that celebrate the countless contributions Black and Afro-descendant communities have made and continue to make to Canada.

Last, as tax season approaches, my office and our partners are gearing up to deliver our annual Tax Clinic. We are looking for interested and qualified volunteers and welcome resumes to be sent to [email protected]. Read below to learn more.

Stay warm, Burlington!

Sincerely,

The Hon. Karina Gould
Member of Parliament
Burlington
