Budget 2023 and March Updates

Dear Friends,

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, released Budget 2023— A Made-in-Canada Plan: Strong Middle Class, Affordable Economy, Healthy Future.

 Here's what this means for Canadians. We are:

  • Delivering new targeted inflation relief to Canadians who need it most;

  • Strengthening our universal public health care system, and rolling out a new Canadian Dental Care Plan for millions of Canadians; and

  • Making transformative investments to build Canada’s clean economy and create good middle class jobs right across Canada.

Canada has made a remarkable recovery from the COVID recession. Inflation in Canada has fallen for eight months in a row. In fact, in February, the average wage for Canadians went up by 5.4 per cent. That means paycheques outpaced inflation, which means more money in Canadians’ pockets after a hard day’s work.

Our unemployment rate is near its record low. Today, 830,000 more Canadians are employed than before the pandemic.

Supported by our Canada-wide system of affordable early learning and child care, the labour force participation rate for women aged 25 to 54 reached a record high of 85.7 per cent in February.

The 2023 federal budget is our plan to build a stronger, more sustainable, and more secure Canadian economy—for everyone.
