September Update
September 27, 2022

Dear friends,

It has been an exciting start to the fall season!

With the beginning of school also comes the return of Parliament. Affordability and the rising cost of living is top of mind for Canadians, and for our government. We will be focused on making life more affordable - delivering on top of mind issues like dental care, housing, and accessible and high-quality childcare across the country.

It's going to be a busy and productive session, and after a summer of engaging with people in Burlington and across the country, I am looking forward to continuing this important work for Canadians.

Tomorrow, September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is a day for reflecting on the injustices that Indigenous peoples in Canada have faced and continue to face, and honouring those we have lost, survivors, and their families. At the link
here, you can learn more and access important resources.

In Burlington, you can join the
reflective walk and event at Spencer Smith Park starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Pier.

I have been hearing from many of you about your concerns surrounding the
proposed changes to the federal riding of Burlington by the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario. You can read more below, or in my Inside Halton article

The Commission has extended the deadline for written submissions, either online or by mail, until October 29th, 2022. You can submit at the link
here

Local organizations that support seniors in Burlington are at the heart of our community. The important work they do to improve quality of life and well-being for seniors is a top priority for the Government of Canada. This month, the New Horizons for Seniors Program opened up the call for proposals, until November 1st. Local organizations can learn more and apply at the link
here

Effective October 1st, 2022, all COVID-19 entry restrictions will be removed.
This decision was made possible by the Canadians who rolled up their sleeves to get vaccinated. However, we expect COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses will continue to circulate over the cold months, so I encourage everyone to stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination, including booster doses and exercise individual public health measures.

In Halton, you can book your COVID-19 Bivalent Booster at the link here.

Sincerely,
