April Update
May 2, 2021
Dear Friends,

As many of you know, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Honourable Chrystia Freeland introduced Budget 2021 on April 19th. The Budget confirms the federal government’s commitment to support Canadians now and into the future.

Over the last week, I have heard from people in Burlington, and across the country, what this budget means to them. I've heard from parents and advocates who have been fighting for 50 years for national childcare, small business owners who need support to get back on their feet, artists and performers who's industry has been hard hit, and front-line organizations who have been keeping our communities going during this difficult time.

This is a budget that will work for everyone as we get through this pandemic, and set ourselves on a path for inclusive and sustainable growth. To read my Budget 2021 newsletter, click here. To read the Budget in full, click here.

As summer approaches, young people in our community and across Canada will be looking for summer employment. Last week, the Canada Summer Jobs portal opened and CSJ opportunities are now available on the Government of Canada Job Bank, linked here

April is also home to National Volunteer Week. Volunteers have always been an integral part of our community, and they have given it their all to support those who need it most during the pandemic. Last week, over 30 organizations joined me in thanking their volunteers at my annual Volunteer Appreciation Evening. We cannot show our gratitude enough for all the volunteers in Burlington and the extraordinarily selfless work they do. Thank you!

As we look ahead into the spring and summer, hope is on the horizon. It has been a tough winter and we are still in the midst of a difficult third wave here in Ontario. Vaccine deliveries into Canada continue to accelerate and more and more Canadians have been able to book their vaccine appointment and protect themselves, their families, and their community. While this is good news, we must remain vigilant and continue to follow local public health guidelines.

All vaccines approved by Health Canada are safe and effective, and the best vaccine is the one that is offered to you. I encourage everyone to book their vaccine appointment as soon as they are eligible.

Stay safe and stay home as much as you can, Burlington.

Sincerely,
