Opinion: No Stone Left Unturned to Protect You
October 15, 2020

While COVID-19 continues to affect our daily lives, I want you to know that your federal government is there for you.

In the spring we procured sufficient PPE for our front-line workers, and invested in significant domestic manufacturing capacity. We sent the Canadian Armed Forces into long-term care homes to bring the situation under control, and we provided over $21 billion to the provinces and territories for them to ramp up testing, contact tracing, make our schools safe and safely restart the economy.

When it comes to the health of Canadians, the federal government is leaving no stone unturned. That is why we have secured vaccine doses for every Canadian, from a variety of companies, to ensure that once a vaccine is approved Canadians will have access to it.

It is why we are aggressively pursuing new treatments and why we have purchased millions of rapid tests that we are giving to the provinces.

Recently we transitioned from the CERB to EI and the new Canada Recovery Benefits. This includes a caregiver benefit and a sickness benefit to help those who have to take time off work to care for a loved one who is ill with COVID-19, or who catch it themselves.

We will continue to be there for you to keep you and your loved ones safe.

If you are a senior who collects OAS and/or GIS, don’t forget to file your taxes. Filing your taxes is necessary to ensure you have continued access to your pension and benefits. If you need help, contact my office. We will be delighted to help you.

Finally, this week is Small Business Week in Canada. Many of our beloved small businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic. Let’s all continue to support our amazing, local businesses and entrepreneurs who are the backbone of our community.

Stay safe and healthy, Burlington.
