COVID-19 Update April 5th
April 5, 2020

Dear Friends,

Thank you to everyone in our community who is doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 and to those who are doing their part to keep us safe, and supplied.

I know the last few weeks have been difficult, adjusting to new circumstances and ensuring that your family and your loved ones are prepared all while experiencing a great deal of uncertainty. Our community is in good hands. From the stocked shelves at our grocery stores, great organizations such as the Burlington Food Bank ensuring that our vulnerable are taken care of, and the tireless work of our first responders keeping our community safe, I know that our community is resilient and prepared to overcome the challenges that we will face in coming weeks as we progress through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

I know that many of you at home are looking for ways that you can help and be of assistance during this pandemic. Many of your normally busy schedules of commuting, volunteering, and socializing have been greatly reduced but there are many ways that you can fill your time and still have a positive impact on yourselves and the community.

You can also continue to support local business by ordering take out from one of our many great restaurants and cafes. For a full list of restaurants in Burlington that are offering take out options, please visit Taste of Burlington to learn more.

The team at Joseph Brant Hospital is doing incredible work in taking care of our community. This week, you may have heard of the construction of a temporary structure beside the hospital's parking garage. This temporary Pandemic Response Unit will expand the hospital's bed capacity by 93 beds in preparation for the anticipated surge of COVID-19 patients and is the first of its kind in Ontario.

I would also like to mention that if you are a senior, or know of one who may need groceries delivered, please call 311 and they will be directed to Halton Food for Life

I know it has been difficult to stay home, but we are doing it for the first responders that are taking the necessary actions to protect us during this pandemic. Done right, these measures will save lives and bring us slowly but surely back to normal. At the same time, we’re working around the clock to get Canada the resources we need.

Thank you for doing the right thing.

Sincerely,

Hon. Karina Gould
