April Updates
May 1, 2023
Dear friends,

With spring comes warmer weather and students in the midst of their summer job hunts! Canada Summer Jobs placements right here in Burlington are available on the Government of Canada Job Bank

Action from Budget 2023 is targeting those who need it most. Earlier this month, the Grocery Rebate was unanimously approved in the House of Commons. This is real support in the pockets of Canadians.

Eligible Ontarians will also have received their Climate Action Incentive Payment starting April 14, which for a family of four is $244. And this is just one of the payments coming to you every 3 months, worth $976 total for the year for a family of four.

Our government is also committed to creating and protecting good, well-paying jobs. Volkswagen is investing $7 billion to establish its first overseas electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in St. Thomas, Ontario. This is the largest electric vehicle-related investment in Canadian history, signaling a strong vote of confidence in Canada and Ontario’s highly-skilled workers, strong economies, and competitive business environments. The plant, which will generate about $200 billion in value, will be the largest manufacturing plant in Canada. Construction is expected to begin next year.

This month also saw the 4th annual Hope in High Heels on the Hill event in Ottawa, hosted jointly with Halton Members of Parliament and Halton Women's Place. Men donned high heels to "walk a mile in her shoes" to show support for ending gender-based violence in Canada. With awareness campaigns like Hope in High Heels, Halton Women's Place can continue their important advocacy work and keep women in our community safe. Learn more about their work here

April is home to a number of cultural holidays, including Eid-al-Fitr and and Vaisakhi. It it always an honour to celebrate important days and events with our community here in Burlington.

Sincerely,

The Hon. Karina Gould
Member of Parliament
Burlington
